Community grants come closer to dispersal
City council has approved first and second readings of the bylaw required to distribute $180,000 in community grants to offset property taxes.

Council is expected to give third reading to the bylaw later this month.
There are 25 community organizations lined up to receive the grants.
The largest grant of $38,959 is earmarked for the MacBride Museum Society. MacBride was eligible for $45,098.
The second largest grant of $25,165 is slated for Softball Yukon. Softball Yukon was eligible for $25,165.
The third largest grant of $23,486 is earmarked for Societe des Immeubles Franco Yukonnais. Franco Yukonnais was eligible for $27,187.
The smallest grant of $86.90 is scheduled to go to the Valleyview Community Association. The association was eligible for $100.
The second smallest grant of $179 is earmaked for Tennis Yukon. Tennis Yukon was eligible for $207.
The third smallest grant of $266 is slated for the Yukon Film Society. The society was eligible for $308.
The total amount of property taxes owed by the 24 organizations is $279,319 while the total eligible grant amount was $204,281.
