The Dawson City community has rallied together to raise almost $9,000 for Tr'ondëk Hwëchin elder William Henry, also known as Waldo, after he lost his mobile home to a chimney fire last Tuesday afternoon.
He was able to get out safely with his dog, but he lost most of his belongings and tools.
Henry is staying at the Downtown Hotel, but wants to go home.
A fundraiser was started to help him afford a tiny home that is for sale in town for $9,500, and support has poured in to make it a reality.
The building would be moved to Henry’s property, which is along the North Klondike Highway just outside town.
So far, $8,856 of the $10,000 goal has been raised with the help of 83 donations.

Live in the times - get insurance on Dec 19, 2021 at 12:03 pm
@Insurance… LOL!
" you want insurance coverage for remote northern mobile homes with wood stoves"
Yes, if said wood stove is up to code as is the dwelling there is zero reason why insurance would be expensive. If it is not up to code, fix it. I pay $82 a month with TD Meloche Monnex for 2 houses and a storage locker. One house is wood stove older place, the other is newer with electric baseboards.
It's stupid attitude like that calling it "insurance scam", that then reduces people to cyber-begging, ie gofundme after the fact. Hey maybe if you have an old beater car you don't need insurance either, hell why stop there, don't bother with medical and dental insurance then complain about costs of prescription medicines or dental procedures, right? It's sad and pathetic. Just like your comment.

Insurance can be hard if not impossible to get for many people for many reasons. LOL! You can’t even get insurance or liability coverage for vaccine injuries and you want insurance coverage for remote northern mobile homes with wood stoves. LOL!
What was s/he/they going to pay for this insurance? Can people afford the insurance scam anymore with all of this inflation running up the gas and grocery bills! LOL!

He may not have been eligible for insurance. It doesn't specify what is main source of heating was in article, but insurance companies are not happy campers if the main source is a wood stove, even if it is a newer model. It does say his property was just outside of town so that could also be a factor causing high premiums if insurance was available.

Insurance? on Dec 15, 2021 at 9:23 am
Here is another case of negligence. Seriously it's 2021 you can get insurance over the phone or internet.
Also, here's another gofundme for another fire in Dawson this week.

Is insurance hard to get up there or what?
