Commissioner Angélique Bernard’s office is launching the Yukon Service Pin to recognize people who have served or are serving in the military or as a first responder.

In this case, first responders include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, rescuers and other trained members of organizations connected to this type of work.

That can be either as a volunteer or as a paid employee.

Military service includes all branches of the Canadian military, including the Canadian Rangers.

“It is my honour to launch the Yukon Service Pin,” Bernard said Monday.

“This pin is to show the commissioner’s appreciation for all that our military and first responders do in helping others.

There can be no more than one pin per person.

The criteria for the Yukon Service Pin are:

• be a Canadian citizen who has served or is serving in the military or as a first responder and was based in the Yukon; or

• be born in the Yukon and has served or is serving in the military or as a first responder inside or outside of Yukon.

The pins are being distributed at the commissioner’s office at 412 Main St.

Recipients will be asked to fill out a criteria form to be eligible to receive a pin.

More information is available by visiting the office or the commissioner’s programs page, or by calling 667-5121.

Who even knows who the Commissioner is? She is Not a Yukoner. She is a new comer and Trudeau said she would forward and improve the French Culture in the Yukon.

Good grief.... as usual, these will end up being be handed out to loyal party members instead of those who deserve recognition.

Remind me what real, meaningful purpose does this position serve?

What a nice gesture. I know at times this type of work can feel like a thankless job. This pin serves as a reminder to first responders that their contribution is appreciated by members of the community.
