Come visit, but plan ahead, YG tells tourists

“Visitation to the Yukon is safe and welcome, although travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and research local conditions.”

By Whitehorse Star on July 13, 2022

“Visitation to the Yukon is safe and welcome, although travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and research local conditions.”

That was the word from the Yukon government, as expressed Tuesday afternoon in what was called an update to a travel advisory issued last Friday.

That alert had been prompted by the hot weather, raging wildfires, evacuation alerts in central Yukon and high water levels.

It had said, “Yukoners and visitors to the territory are being asked to seriously consider their travel plans.”

Friday’s alert received national news coverage, causing confusion among some of those planning to visit the territory and some
trip cancellations.

Tuesday afternoon’s update said, “Visitors are welcome in the Yukon and leisure travel is permitted, although travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and research local conditions.

“Anyone travelling in the territory should carefully consider their plans and make informed decisions for their own safety and the safety of emergency responders and residents in impacted areas.

“The Yukon is vast, and while there are fires in several regions of the territory, many Yukon communities are accessible and welcoming tourists,” the updated advisory said.

The government said it’s continuing to respond to emergencies across the territory.

“Cooler weather and road re-openings are welcome developments, but some Yukon communities continue to be impacted by wildfires and high water levels,” its statement said.

“When travelling by road, people may experience delays depending on the destination.

“Anyone travelling by road should bring essential items like food, water, medications, fuel, chargers, etc.

“Do your research. When travelling in the Yukon, it is strongly recommended to research in advance to understand the latest risk levels where you plan to visit.

“Always get your information from trusted sources.”

The advisory invites tourists to stop at Visitor Information Centres in Watson Lake, Whitehorse, Dawson City, Carcross, Haines Junction, and Beaver Creek for the latest updates, and to check https://Yukon511.ca before travelling by road.

“Air quality has been affected in a few communities due to wildfires in the Yukon and Alaska,” the update notes.

“Be prepared. Emergency responders and community residents work long hours to keep Yukoners and visitors safe. If you travel, here’s how you can help.

The government then advises:

  • Expect delays on roadways and bring extra food and water.

  • Follow all instructions from officials and do not interfere with emergency response operations.

  • Respect any closures and advisories communities have in place.

  • Do not travel to areas under evacuation alerts or expect to find supplies in every community.

  • Bring everything you need, like groceries, fuel and cellphone chargers for the duration of your travel.

Hey PSG...come on man, best ya got?
Pro State Goof is a better moniker...since you most seem to resemble a state sycophant and not a spore of science which should be a fact based thing not leftist Voodoo.

Have a good willfully ignorant day Pro State Goof.
Guess ya may have to wait till November to see how well regulated the alleged right can be?
Imagine a time when fighting for your clearly written rights, no creative interpretation required, makes one a far right radical?

Sorry, this post belonged on a previous forum re food hoarding that is now gone, but what I witnessed this week shocked me. A customer with an already overloaded cart bought, not one tray of 30 eggs, but 3 crates of those trays. This left none for anyone with a large family who wanted those eggs or any of the other items that were bought in bulk. Reason given was that person was running a camp. Several things wrong with that scenario; firstly the store shouldn't allow bulk purchases in this manner and they also clog up the checkout. Secondly, there are wholesalers for these customers or they could also be courteous to staff by ordering ahead so items are put aside for them. Staff can then know to order extra so stock is available for regular household customers.

The 2nd says a well regulated militia OJW. You neo-fascist Trumpers are not capable of being well regulated. Perhaps Russia or Somali would be a better fit for you folks. And yes, neo-fascist is the term that best describes the politics of you and the far right and 90% of so called libertarians.

Please allow visitors to remain enthusiastic even if their travel plans seem overly ambitious. Many travelers have much more experience than folks who work in an office and want to give advice.

So we are Canezuela now. The liberal haters who contribute nothing to this forum discourse should be thrilled.

"...in other words don't come."

The last thing we need is to rescue you when we can't even look after our own. The government forgot to mention that at the end.
