A 32-year-old British Columbia man is dead after a collision on the Alaska Highway in Whitehorse on Sunday night.
Whitehorse RCMP said this morning emergency responders were on the scene of the collision on the highway north of Two Mile Hill just after 11:30 p.m.
There, a Ford F-350 was located up an embankment on its roof.
A flat-deck trailer, which appeared to have been towed by the truck, was also found upside down in a ditch.
“The investigation revealed that a Nissan SUV was pulled over on the shoulder of the road in the south-bound lane,” RCMP said in a statement early this afternoon.
“It appears that the truck approached the SUV from behind and impacted the driver’s side of the SUV. This resulted in the destruction of the truck’s front tire.
“The truck then lost control and went off the road, rolling and landing on its roof.”
The driver of the truck was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck on impact. His name was not released.
The driver of the SUV did not suffer any physical injuries, police said.
“The Alaska Highway was closed to traffic in both directions for approximately three hours,” RCMP noted.
“The cause of the collision remains under investigation.”
