Yukon College and the Public Service Alliance of Canada, on behalf of the Yukon College Employees Union, reached a tentative collective agreement last week to replace their recently expired contract.
Several discussion sessions took place, including several pre-bargaining meetings and a negotiation session last Tuesday and Wednesday, which both parties described as 'positive and productive' in a press release last week.
'We're pretty happy with it, things went very well,' said Laurie Butterworth, president of the Yukon Employees Union. 'Both sides are fairly happy with the way things went, and to walk away with no real grumbling is always a good sign.'
The last contract lasted for three years and expired on June 30. Various issues of interest were addressed during the negotiations, although details cannot be revealed until the contract is ratified by members of the bargaining unit and Yukon College's Board of Governors.
The ratification vote will take place on Sept. 4, due to the fact that many of the members are currently on vacation.
Regional representative Jim Brohman was the negotiator for PSAC, and the college's director of human resources, Jock Bryce, represented the management and board of directors.
PSAC represents approximately 200 employees at the college, based at the main campus in Whitehorse and the 12 community campuses located across the territory.
