Whitehorse businessman and philanthropist Rolf Hougen has accepted another term as Yukon College's chancellor, the Star has learned.

While he was reluctant to accept the position back in 2008, according to college president Dr. Terry Weninger, it took little convincing to keep Hougen on board for another two years.

"He sees the agenda going forward with the college and he wants to assist in furthering that direction,” Weninger said today of Hougen's reasons for staying on.

"His experience, his guidance and wisdom are all appreciated, not only at the board level but on a personal level,” Winenger added.

This year will see a significant amount of infrastructure added to the college with the construction of an Arctic research centre at the Whitehorse campus and new satellite campuses in Pelly Crossing and Dawson City.
