Whitehorse resident Sharon Miller's first time playing KENO turned into a lucky lottery experience.

"I was having coffee with my brother, and he suggested we play,” she said this week.

So Miller bought 10 8-Spot KENO tickets, wagering $2 on each, at Cashplan Financial located on Elliott Street. They then went outside to enjoy the coffee.

When she came back in, she checked her tickets and thought she had all matched eight numbers on one, but she didn't know what she'd won.

She went out of town the next day and didn't check her tickets at a retailer until she came back.

"I went into a bit of shock,” Miller recalled.

Matching all eight numbers on a $2 wager was a $20,000 win for her.

While the retailer called Western Canada Lottery Corp. hotline to register the win, Miller said she attracted some attention.

"There were people in the store just staring at me,” she said. "Everyone laughed; it was a good time!”

Miller plans to pay some bills with her winnings.

"It's nice to have the cash, and maybe it will eventually fulfill a wish,” she said.
