Local police took a suspected drug dealer and 53 grams of crack cocaine off the street early Sunday morning.
According to a press release sent out Monday afternoon, Whitehorse RCMP patrolling the Granger neighbourhood pulled over a suspicious-looking vehicle at approximately 12:40 a.m. Sunday.
They conducted a background check on the driver and found the 50-year old Whitehorse man was allegedly violating several court-ordered conditions.
Officers searched the man and his vehicle and discovered, along with drugs and drug paraphernalia, a large amount of cash and at least one weapon.
Police would not say what type of weapon was found, but did lay a charge of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. He is also charged with drug trafficking and the failure to comply with a court order.
A publication ban was issued by the court on Monday morning, ordering that the man's name not be published.
The man, who is known to police, is due to appear in court Wednesday and will remain in custody until then.

Another victory for the RCMP.
Too bad they know who the big dogs are but refuse to touch them, and would rather go after the small timers.
Keeping the streets safe.
I might just keep my doors unlocked after this.
