A local family is hoping a clothesline they set up on the Millennium Trail will help keep the community warm.
One of the family members, who asked to remain anonymous, said she’s noticed a number of people in need around the downtown area wearing little winter gear to keep warm.
The family had some extras around the house.
They decided to string a clothesline behind Waterfront Station on the Millennium Trail and hang extra clothes they no longer need there.
They’re available to anyone who might require a toque, scarf, socks or coat. The family hopes others will do the same.
After getting all the winter gear washed up, they put together the clothesline, with the items now available to whoever may have a use for them.
While the family had extra to share, the woman noted there were a few items they didn’t have she’d like to see added to the line, like men’s winter jackets.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can simply take their items to the clothesline and hang them there.
“It’ll be interesting to see how it works out,” she said, noting the family will be monitoring it over the next few weeks.
The family makes donations where they can to various charities.
However, this is the first time for the clothesline, something that came to the woman’s mind when she saw many in the downtown area clearly cold and without the proper clothing to stay warm.
This means they can just grab what they might need off the line, and anyone with extras to share can put them up for the taking.
“It’s just about helping out,” she said.
