Clarification sought on school report
The Yukon government is looking for clarifications on a number of items coming out of an engineering assessment on the Ross River School.
The Yukon government is looking for clarifications on a number of items coming out of an engineering assessment on the Ross River School.
Spokeswoman Alicia Debreceni of the Department of Highways and Public Works said Monday afternoon the draft report from Williams Engineering came in last Friday.
It’s one of two independent reports set to be delivered on the school. However, it didn’t have the level of detail territorial property management officials were looking for.
It’s now expected the report will come back by the end of the month.
While Debreceni couldn’t say exactly what additional details property management officials are looking for, she did note the report’s main recommendation is that the building not be occupied until repairs are done.
It’s now expected the report with the additional details will be finished at the end of the month.
The school, built in 2001, closed in January after cracks were found. Initially the school closed for a few days then reopened until another inspection cited serious structural concerns.
Students and staff were relocated to various locations around the village.
Another report assessing the permafrost beneath the school is also being done by EBA Engineering and expected to be in by the end of this week.
