Jeffrey Blackburn, a 40-year-old Whitehorse man is facing three charges after a police officer was assaulted in downtown Whitehorse early last Saturday morning.

A man got out of his vehicle a number of times in an agitated state at a traffic stop near Jarvis Street and Second Avenue at about 12:40 a.m., according to an RCMP press release.

RCMP Const. Christine Larsen tried to calm him down, but he became increasingly agitated. When Larsen attempted to arrest the man, she was physically assaulted.

RCMP Sgt. Don Rogers told the Star this morning that the man struck Larsen. His violent behaviour continued as a number of people from a nearby business quickly came to Larsen's aid.

Additional officers soon joined the scene. During a brief struggle, RCMP Const. Daniel Rouleau was also assaulted, and the man was taken into custody.

Rogers said Larsen's injuries are not serious.

Blackburn is facing two charges of assaulting a peace officer and one charge of resisting arrest. He appeared in court Monday.

I would like to buy Mr. Blackburn dinner. I meet and know how Christine is from Squamish.

... I don't think any officers (male or female) should be on duty alone during the witching hours (i.e. late night when the bars are near closing) because you never know what kind of drunk or drugged out yahoos you are going to run into.

Good job on the part of the citizens for coming to the aid of the Officer.

This guy is a menace to society, it was only a matter of time till he got arrested...again!

A big thank you to the RCMP and civilians who finally were able to take this jackass down.

Really? Was he drunk or something? How rude of this man, when all their doing is their jobs, people really need to learn some patience... I hope CST Larsen is ok. Even worse that she is a FEMALE and he is a MALE. There should be more charges then just assaulting peace officers. Again my condolences to CST Larsen, who is by the way an amazing officer.
