City updates Two Mile Hill work

The work on Two Mile Hill is expected to continue for another month, depending on weather.

The work on Two Mile Hill is expected to continue for another month, depending on weather.

The city’s contractor, Skookum Asphalt, is expected to begin pouring concrete for the curb and gutter along Two Mile Hill Road this week, the city said this morning.

The concrete work is expected to take 10 days.

It will be followed by a short period of curing time before paving begins.

Paving is expected to last up to five days, and the project is expected to be completed by Sept. 30.

“Please travel with care, reduce speed, and follow traffic controllers and construction signage,” the city said.

“The city and its contractor thank you for your patience and consideration during this construction period.”

I have never lived in a city that has the traffic design and use patterns worked out as well as Whitehorse.
Maybe a 2 minute wait every few months on the busiest of our road arteries. Well done Whitehorse!!!

I truly believe HPW and the City need to do a better job holding these road contractors to task. The work being done on bridge upgrades, highway work and on two mile is a disgrace. Have inspectors not bothered to look a the atrocious road conditions Cobalt has left the North Klondike highway in over the last 3 summers? Absolutely embarrassing. I had to re-weld my trailer after using their pilot car temporary route last year. I don't see how these contractors get a passing grade, let alone paid the full amount of the contract, let alone be awarded future contracts.

Apparently the City prefers to spend your money rebuilding a perfectly-good snow storage area (the median on 2-Mile Hill) instead of fixing the cracked and lumpy sidewalks and bike lanes beside the same road. Priorities!

Dear Karl on Sep 1, 2022 at 6:36 pm:

The metropolis needs more lanes! We need to move more people - Widen Two Mile Hill now! Walmart needs us!

However, it really is difficult with the narrowed lanes and the milling to keep the vehicle straight up the hill - Left/right, left/right - This is negligence waiting for opportunity!

In project work there is nothing like having a plan, and this is nothing like a plan.

It’s not ‘complete’ idiocy yet, the job’s not done! Don’t worry though, they’ll get there eventually.

What was wrong with the old concrete and median? It's not like it was busted up or anything.

Hey seriously...the wizards are serious.
As previously mentioned...far far too many stupid people in positions of power and influence.
For all those taking a hit with replacing suspension part prematurely driving our butchered roads, go for drive down to Tlingit street and see the Landscaping and epitaph the parks dept is building outside of their chair warming facility.
Tis all about them, with your money...striving for excellence the moniker bleats...yeah ok wtfe.

Avoid Two Mile Hill if you're on a motorcycle. The current surface makes the bike very unstable.

Absolutely unacceptable. Why mill the surface and wait 2 months to resurface the busiest stretch of road in the city?

Complete idiocy.
