City postpones mandatory vaccination policy

The City of Whitehorse is delaying its vaccine mandate policy for its employees.

By Whitehorse Star on February 17, 2022

The City of Whitehorse is delaying its vaccine mandate policy for its employees.

The move was confirmed by city spokesperson Myles Dolphin this morning.

“The city is indeed delaying its mandatory vaccination policy for employees to March 20th,” Dolphin said in an email to the Star.

“This is partly to allow our unvaccinated employees more time to get vaccinated.

“The decision was also made due to some pandemic restrictions being lifted both locally and nationally, and due to a very high vaccination rate amongst city employees.

“Finally, the city always communicated to staff that its Mandatory Vaccination Administrative Directive was subject to change, and case counts are continuing to decline across the territory.”

@DMZ

As matter of fact there is. Here's Bill Gates offering an explanation for how the virus itself, particularly the variant Omicron is a type of vaccine (sadly). Darn shame about that natural immunity eh?

The level of venom, name calling, rudeness and misinformation on both sides of the vaccine issue has gotten out of hand. Nobody listens, nobody changes their mind. Just about everywhere in Canada ICU and hospitalization stats are levelling or reducing. We know that mandates will soon end. How about we just all swallow our indignation, admit to ourselves that maybe we are right, maybe we are not, but it won't matter a tinkers in a couple of years, and decide to stop expressing our opinions on the topic bevause, as I said, nobody listens anymore.

City of Whitehorse Mayor and Council..if you can postpone the mandates, you can certainly cancel them. So, these people that prefer to make their own choices about their bodies are good enough to use when its snowing out, but throw them under the bus when the weather changes? Get over yourselves and do the right thing. Everyone, vaxxed, unvaxxed, is going to get covid. It's a flu. Eventually it will join the yearly flu shots. Meanwhile, the Feds are trying to pass the War Measures Act, and Silver is doing whatever the PMO tells him to do. Canada is a mess. But, we don't have to be.

BTW. My Mother died of the Swine flu 40 years ago. That was also called a pandemic, but the Covid pandemic is the first time Governments tried to use a virus to override constitutional restraints and take control, in a dictator like fashion, of the country. Trudeau is not the only one to see the advantages of the Emergency Measures Act.

I wonder if they're taking natural immunity into account, especially since Omicron. Kind of funny how thy never mention that. There must be some data by now.

Pretty brutal, have to be vaxxed to get into the games centre but any staff in there could be unvaxxed..

In the years that I have been posting, I have never gotten personal, called anyone names, tried to respect their opinion. OMG. I am having a difficult time not coming off the wall against against Yukon Liberal/Lennie. Your marble bag has a big hole in it.

You can really tell from the venom in some peoples' voices and written words they don't have any health concerns about the unvaccinated, but rather are outraged at their noncompliance.

The truth is - that you don't want to admit - is the protests are working and you are sucking up to protect yourselves for the next election. “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” In other words, we are not the fools here.

To answer Preston Vowk. No one has been put on LWOP. February 20th was the deadline. So tomorrow would of been their last day. They can't afford to lose anyone, this isn't YTG. Kind of dirty waiting to the last second to announce this.

Listen to yourself yukon liberal. "OMG my vaccine doesn't work unless you get it" The only ones I see getting sick are the vaxxed. END OF STORY. Thumbs down my comment if you agree with me.

Or... because they're still trying to catch up on snow removal and it's ridiculous to force employees out because of a stupid vaccine mandate? Just do the right thing City and drop it, you know it's doing nothing but hurting hard working employees who deserve to be treated better.

This demonstrates a lack of leadership.
It's also out of step with the territorial government.

WHAT A MISTAKE!!! We pay a lot of taxes now!! Surely we deserve to be safe from City employees. They should exercise their their right and get the hell out...Take a new job alone in the bush, away from us Elders trying to escape the pandemic.....

"very high vaccination rate amongst city employees" you don't have a clue as to what those rates are, did you ask around the water cooler?

So will all the people that were forced to quit or sent home without pay because of no vaccination are they getting reimbursed for the time they have lost?

I for one, am appalled at this decision. If you are unvaccinated you should not be able to work from anywhere but home. Allowing those that are compromised to be allowed to work puts all the good people who got vaccinated in harms way.
