City crews tackle major snowfall

Apparently, Tuesday’s persistent snowstorm hasn’t caused too many problems for city road maintenance workers.
According to city spokesperson Jordan Lutz, “Crews are working 24 hours a day to clear snow from priority 1 and 2 roadways, emergency routes, hills and major bus routes.
“Trails and sidewalks are being cleared for pedestrian mobility,” he added Tuesday afternoon. “With ongoing snowfall, the public will see crews concentrating on these priorities until the snowfall has subsided.
“Please give equipment room to work, stay back at least 15 metres and drive with caution.
“Sanders are also working 24 hours a day to ensure safe travel. Snow removal in subdivisions will commence once all priority roads are cleared.”
Lutz added, “This is nothing we haven’t seen from last year.
“When it snows this much and so quick, it slows the snow removal process and will provide an inconvenience to the public.
“Areas that are cleared quickly, such as downtown, will now be a slower process, limiting some mobility until crews can clear paths, sidewalks and bike lanes.”

Thank you City Crews. You do not make the weather but you try very hard to make it possible for us to drive and walk around the City. I also want to thank the YG employees who maintain the highways around the Yukon. Thank you and a Merry Xmas.

Crews may be working 24/7, but there isn't very many of them.
I live and work downtown. On my walk to work most of the sidewalks are cleared in front of businesses. Zero are cleared in front of city lots.
In previous years I would have trouble sleeping because of all of the noise from the snow removal night crews. This week I have slept like a baby. It has been dead quiet.
I don't actually care if the snow is removed, but I find it funny how the city has complained so much over the last couple years about how poorly the private businesses shoveled sidewalks. I hope the businesses share their disappointment with the city this year.

When is the City going to clean up the downtown area? All they've done so far this winter is grade the snow off the main part of the street into the parking meter area. This morning for instance, the downtown streets were so slippery, they looked like a hockey rink.
