Whitehorse RCMP have laid a charge of attempted murder against a local resident after another man was stabbed during a drunken altercation Wednesday night.

Early this morning, police arrested a 53-year-old man after being called to the Golden Horn subdivision just south of Whitehorse.

When police arrived, they found one victim, a 45-year-old man, suffering from a knife wound.

He was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was still in the house when officers arrived and was arrested in the spot.

Charges of attempted murder and assault with a weapon were recommended, based on the ensuing investigation.

Later this morning, police had identified a second victim, a 48-year-old woman, who was in the house at the time of the attack and may be the person who called 911. She was not physically assaulted.

A third charge of uttering threats was laid against the suspect as a result of the evidence she gave to police.

The man, who police are not naming, was scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 this afternoon.

Alcohol consumption is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident.
