The Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce will make its pitch for economic stimulus when federal Treasury Board president Vic Toews visits the territory next week.

"We will present to him some key economic points that we are hoping he will take back to Ottawa with him, and will appear in the economic budget at the end of January," chamber president Rick Karp said Thursday.

Karp said the business sector will host a breakfast meeting with Toews next Friday.

The chamber will make its pitch, after which Toews is expected to make a few announcements of his own.

"We want them to understand our needs," he said. "So this is an ideal opportunity to make these points to the minister who sits in cabinet, and can take that back to (Finance Minister Jim) Flaherty."

Toews is scheduled to hold a press conference next Friday morning following his meeting with members of the chamber.

All eyes will be on Flaherty's budget, not only because of the troubling economic ties, but also because of how the opposition parties have vowed to bring down the Conservative minority government if the budget is not acceptable.
