With flood waters still threatening parts of the Yukon, the territorial Emergency Support Services (ESS) facility is ready to accept Yukoners at the Canada Games Centre (CGC) if they have to leave their homes due flood waters.

The reception centre and group lodging is located at the CGC in Whitehorse, according to a news release issued at noon today by the Yukon government.

A flood warning is still in for the Yukon River at Carmacks.

“We are working closely with the Village of Carmacks and Little Salmon-Carmacks First Nation to support their efforts to protect homes and infrastructure,” the statement said.

“Four Wildland Fire Management crews are assisting with the response efforts. Protection of River Drive remains a priority, with a berm created for the area. Berms are also being constructed in Lower Bench.”

The river at Carmacks rose 23.9 centimetres in the last 24 hours.

A boil water advisory has been issued for residents of the village and First Nation citizens who use private wells.

The advisory is a precautionary measure to protect public health.

Private wells may be impacted by flooding and high ground water from rising water levels on the Yukon River.

If you are using water from a private well:

• Boil the water for two minutes (rolling boil) before using it for drinking, cleaning food, preparing food, baby formula or fruit drinks, washing dishes, making ice, or brushing teeth.

• Residents should keep a 72-hour supply of water on hand in case water supplies are impacted by flooding.

You can either store bottled water, which can be purchased from the store in advance, or fill clean plastic milk jugs (or other containers) with water.

For further information, contact Environmental Health Services at 667-8391 or toll free at 1-800-661-0408 ext. 8391.

In Dawson City, the Klondike River dropped by another six centimetres overnight and the Yukon River retreated by one centimetre.

“Pumps and sandbags are deployed to protect infrastructure,” the statement said.

“Boaters should wear life jackets and residents should stay away from the eroding riverbank.”

A high streamflow advisory is in effect for the Stewart River at Mayo.

In Pelly Crossing, the Mica Bridge is closed and the road to it is open to local traffic only. The community garden is closed.

Water levels on the Pelly River are appearing to stabilize.

The situation in Ross River hasn’t changed much from the previous three days.

An evacuation alert is in effect for some properties in Ross River. A flood warning is in effect for the Pelly River at Ross River.

The government has closed the Ross River pedestrian bridge due to safety concerns.

“Stay clear of the fast-flowing river and the bridge,” the statement said.

The North Canol Road ferry is not running and the Canol Road is closed to non-local traffic north of the Pelly Road.

In Teslin, a flood warning is in effect for Teslin Lake.

The lake’s water levels have now surpassed last year’s high water mark. Teslin Lake rose by 18 centimetres in the last 24 hours.

A flood warning is in effect for the Liard River at Upper Liard.

Conservatives up a 5 point lead ahead of Liberals this week, that is not small. May as well keep that station up for Liberal evacuees. Looks safe enough for the likes of them.

C’mon man… You must have slept on a few army cots in common spaces with others before, no?

This whole idea of shutting down and redefining the commons as a political
strategy is simply the weaponized subjugation of the political will of the people wielded by Sunny Tru (Justin Trudeau - wink, wink) in his/her/their crusade to enlighten the masses with Liberal Truths.

But we do not sully the Canada Games Center with homeless non-YTG sub humans now, do we?

I think I would just rather move to high ground and sleep under a Pine tree than live under those conditions at the CGC thank you. Others can enjoy the Snore and F*** Philharmonic Pops.
