Nearly 300 people showed up to a casting call last night for a movie set to film in Whitehorse in early April.

'It was quite overwhelming actually,' Arlin McFarlane said this morning.

The local woman was hired by the production company to find several locals to fill minor speaking roles and to be non-speaking extras.

She was able to spend about three minutes with each of the 130 people who auditioned on camera, working from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

People interested in being in The Big White, a film about life insurance fraud gone wrong, began lining up an hour before the start time.

While McFarlane worked in the High Country Inn's library, auditioners waited in the hotel's back lobby, where conditions were 'exceedingly crowded.'

One of the five production staff on hand last night was tasked solely with lining people up in the hall, said McFarlane.

She'll give the video tape to the first assistant director, and he'll choose who comes back for a second audition.

Anyone who gets a callback should receive a phone call in the next couple of days, said McFarlane.

The filming scheduled for Whitehorse is set for April 6.
