Janet Chan had been saving her tip money to give to her mother and sister in order to help out the family.
Last Friday, the manager of the North Dragon Restaurant arrived at work, where a lot of money and three cases of beer had been stolen.
Chan did not want the amount of the cash stolen released for safety reasons.
'I don't know how they got in,' Chan said this week, noting the doors were locked and there was no damage to the windows.
The day before the robbery, her husband, who also operates the restaurant, had been so busy, they hadn't had an opportunity to get to the bank and deposit the money the restaurant makes through the day like they normally do.
The couple doesn't normally keep a lot of cash in the restaurant overnight.
'I'm so upset,' Chan said.
She stressed the money wasn't only for the business, but also for some family members as the Chinese New Year approaches on Feb. 18.
Whitehorse RCMP are continuing their investigation into the break-in.
Police were called to the restaurant at around 11:11 a.m. last Friday. They later learned of the stolen alcohol and money.
Many of the details around the break-in are still under investigation, Cpl. Grant MacDonald said Monday afternoon.
Anyone with information on the break-in are asked to called the RCMP at 667-5555 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
Local businesses are also advised to take precautions in keeping their facilities safe, a statement from police noted.
