Linda Bonnefoy, a candidate in tomorrow's city byelection will have her name appear on the ballot after clearing up some concerns regarding overdue fees with the city.

Bonnefoy said early this week she received notice from the city requiring her to pay $892.80 in renewal fees and finance charges for two businesses she says have not been in operation for the last two years.

Under section 50 of the territory's Municipal Act, candidates cannot be elected to municipal office if they have an "overdue debt exceeding $500 other than a debt for current taxes.”

Rob Fendrick, the city's director of administrative services, said today the city was unaware that Bonnefoy had moved.

"Once she came in, we were able to clear the accounts of the charges,” he said.

I still don't believe she qualifies.

According to the Municipal Act you must be a resident of the city for one year to be eligible. As of October of this year Ms Bonnefoy is listed as a resident of Haines Junction on the Elections Yukon document linked below where she is declared the Official Agent for Gerald Dickson in the Territorial election.
