The Yukon will host hundreds of delegates for the 2021 Canadian Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting (AGM) in September 2021.

It will be first-ever such AGM North of 60.

The decision was announced by the Canadian chamber at its 2019 AGM held last weekend in Saint John.

“The response of the over-350 chamber delegates from across the country was one of excitement,” the Yukon chamber said in a statement.

“A number of Canada’s business leaders shared that the Yukon was on their bucket list.”

Representatives from the Yukon and Whitehorse chambers fielded enthusiastic questions about how to build a longer stay around the September 2021 event, the Yukon chamber added.

“The Canadian chamber has a keen awareness of the importance of the North for Canada’s future,” said Craig Hougen, the Yukon board member with the Canadian chamber.

“We will start to organize the event very soon, as we know we can make it outstanding.”

The proposal to host the AGM has been a year-long process, in partnership with Hougen, the Yukon Convention Bureau, the Whitehorse chamber and the Yukon First Nations Chamber of Commerce.

The 2021 AGM will showcase the Yukon to 300 to 500 visiting business leaders and provide tremendous opportunities for the whole Yukon, the Yukon chamber said.

Peter Turner, the chamber’s president, highlighted how much the territory has to share with the rest of Canada, and how few business leaders have ever had the opportunity to visit the North.

“Attendees will better understand some of the strengths and the challenges we face as northern businesses,” Turner said.

Incorporated in 1985, the Yukon chamber is the collective voice of the territory’s business community, “working to create a climate conducive to a strong private-sector economy by providing leadership and representation on issues and projects affecting business.”

The organization works with more than 750 Yukon businesses, through either direct or community chamber membership, as well as the five community chambers of Dawson City, Silver Trail, St. Elias, Watson Lake and Whitehorse.

If they are serious about that climate emergency everyone is so excited about..well..there goes that neighborhood..but we can cut their foot print. A huge get off the plane you flew in fee, Paper water bottles although they apparently don't last long, Trudeau recommends them...feeding them only items that have never touched plastic. That one should be easy with Yukon Gardens providing lots of greens and salads.. If the Hotels don't get rid of anything plastic, shut them down, refuse a business licence.
Put these travelers on cotton cots in a camping facility.. Silly..yeah..it is.. when so many have gone ape **** crazy to declare a climate emergency how much thought did you give to the consequences? A lot of folks already are way over board... why not go all the way? Other than that.. I think this is excellent. these folks will spend a lot of money here..our taxes are filthy, put some standard of cleanliness on them.

One thing they will find is that the hotels are embarrassing for a city this size!
