The Congdon Creek campground near Destruction Bay is once again open for camping, though Environment officials are recommending those tenting stay away.
The campground was closed at the beginning of the month because bears, including a mother grizzly with two cubs, were frequenting the area to feed on soapberries.
After checking the area through the month, conservation officers determined the bears had moved on and the site could be re-opened. It's recommended though, that camping be limited to those using RVs and trailers in case the animals return.
Conservation officers were also kept busy in Whitehorse dealing with the male black bear which has been seen at the soapberry patches along Two Mile Hill and Robert Service Way over the past several weeks.
On Saturday, conservation officers were informed a black bear was up a tree at 604 Drury Street.
Believed to be the same bear hanging around Two Mile Hill and Robert Service Way, officers used a tranquilizer dart on the animal, trapped it and moved it north of Whitehorse where it was released in a spot containing lots of ripe soapberries, the department of Environment said yesterday.
