Fatigue may have been a factor in a single-vehicle mishap on Wednesday morning north of the McLintock River Bridge, south of Whitehorse .

Sgt. Don Rogers, the local RCMP spokesman, said the driver of a travel van may have fallen asleep before driving off the road at about 11:15 a.m.

The occupants of the van were on their way home to California from a visit to Alaska when the incident occurred.

RCMP officers, the Whitehorse Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services personnel went to the scene. No injuries were reported.

Some fuel from gas cans was spilled in the midst of the collision, but it was cleaned up immediately.

Another motorist gave the Californians a ride into Whitehorse, where they could make travel arrangements.

It was the second traffic mishap involving Californians in two days.

On Tuesday, a California-registered pickup truck hauling a trailer was badly damaged after it collided with another pickup truck at the intersection of the Alaska Highway and Robert Service Way.

After driving up and down the Alaska Hwy for almost 40 yrs in all weather one thing hasnt changed--Travellers have always tried to make it as far as they can every day until they are "Dead" behind the wheel. Maybe the RCMP should stop more cars and pick-ups to check drivers rather than just concentrating on truckers log books-Yeah some guys push it too but Id venture there are 1 trucker tired to 100 small vehicle or motorhome-travel trailer.
