City bylaw officer Dave Pruden became a local hero Monday afternoon, at least to one feline resident.

After being stranded atop a pine tree all weekend, a fluffy black and white cat was rescued when Pruden was hoisted up on a lift truck by Public Works employee Tom Piket.

'It resisted a little and made a bit of noise but that was it, and I put it in a cage and brought it down,' Pruden said after retrieving the cat.

The rescue, which occurred off of Falcon Drive in Copper Ridge, brought neighbours together in a united effort to help the cat. Residents had called various city services since the cat was first spotted in the tree last Saturday morning.

After requesting help from the city fire department and local tree services companies, Pruden was able to convince the public works department to help out early Monday afternoon. Piket drove a bucket lift, used to repair traffic lights, to the rescue scene.

'It's great to have other departments working with us,' said Pruden.

The cat, which was not claimed at the rescue scene but is known to area neighbours, was brought to the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter on Tlingit Street.
