The man behind the Magic Cool Bus safe ride program has entered into a common-law peace bond, which could resolve the charges he is facing.
Daniel Brent Mackenzie, 27, appeared in territorial court on Thursday before Judge Michael Cozens.
He had been set to stand trial on one count of criminal harassment and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
Crown prosecutor Paul Battin presented the proposed peace bond to the court. It would be a $500 no-deposit, eight-month bond.
Mackenzie would have to keep the peace and not attend the residence of one of the complainants unless invited for a specific purpose.
The name of the complainant cannot be published nor can the specifics of the visitation exception, as that would identify this individual.
Battin said Mackenzie should not pose a risk. The Crown was willing to request a stay of proceedings on all counts.
Lynn MacDiarmid, Mackenzie’s lawyer, told the court her client understands what is going on.
Cozens approved the peace bond as presented by the Crown and stayed the charges.
He warned Mackenzie that if he breached any of the conditions, he would be taken into custody.
Mackenzie was arrested on Dec. 29, 2018, and released on bail later in January.
He was accused of allegedly uttering death threats to two individuals.
Mackenzie was accused of allegedly following a woman around Whitehorse between Dec. 1 and 28, 2018. This behaviour made the woman “reasonably, in all the circumstances, fear for her safety.”
Mackenzie was accused of allegedly threatening the two individuals sometime between Dec. 24 and 27, 2018. Mackenzie was lastly accused of allegedly uttering a death threat to an unspecified number of Yukon government employees sometime on Dec. 26, 2018.

Josey - I like your posts. They are edgy and somewhat out there but they have value and thought provoking content.

Hey Yukon Watchdog...I most certainly get your point, that said?
Could you imagine a society where we all thought, spoke and were the same as each other?
I myself cannot ever imagine living in such a society, ever!
Hence my absolute loathing of the PC Crusade, state sanctioned group think and actual tribunals such as the Liberal introduced H.R.T.s
To reside in a echo chamber would suck more than moderation would ever graciously allow me to illustrate as thee host of these discussions.
YWD, I am not a gawd squad follower of any type but truly do respect the individual to seek solace in whatever one “chooses too”.
If what one chooses, advocates for physical harm to another that does not follow the choices made by said fictitious “seeker of solace/faith” that would be my limit of tolerance.
Absolutely nobody has any rights to NOT be offended in the society we reside in. Heaps of things offend me daily, as long as those folks stay away from me when time to lash out and project violence in my direction?
I call that a diverse collection of people, philosophies, and yes even cultures.
I can assure you the way I carry myself each day, my many opinions and personal values offend many daily that are diametric to myself, with Patti being one of. She can project whatever values, opinions and follow any faith she chooses too. I and you do not have to like said examples, just please understand that she is a member of our society and if free for the time being to make her own choices.
There may come a time, worse than currently where that changes and that would not merely offend me...but seriously piss me off.
If we let the SJWs, the various governments compel our speech, thoughts and in doing so UNDERMINE our actual individuality for some collective of some utopian society of alleged peace, love and “tolerance”?
Last point...maybe, the same legislators that demand tolerance and diversity are the most intolerant and do not support diversity of thought...when violence is brought forward? There are many many factors that inhibit one to actually preserve your right to life, liberty and the general pursuit of happiness...not a Yankee thing but western value. Hate, like love is a human emotion and despite the attempts cannot be legislated as we all have levels of both that effect our philosophies.
Full stop...OJW.

@ Patti Eyre Your comments never cease to amaze me, but I must say your religious posts are very offensive.

Patti. If you’d bother to read the article you’d know the photo was taken December 3. Also as far as ‘God’s children’ a high percentage of people are agnostic or atheist and don’t acknowledge the existence of your ‘god’.

@Patti the picture is from when he went to city hall to pitch his idea for the "Magic Cool Bus'' last yr. It would seem he's just strange Dec. 3 standing committees meeting. He wore a black-feathered headdress decorated with googly eyes, and played music as he spoke to Whitehorse’s council. Quote from one of the first articles about him he was later removed from the building as he was creating a scene.

The way this case was handled by the criminal justice system and the media has demonstrated the absolute inability of the system to act rationally and in the interest of the public. The Crown, the Court and the media should be ashamed of themselves for their handling of this case. They have unnecessarily vilified this person in the public eye.

I am Daniel's Mom. I see and know a very kind person whom is a loving father and a person that just wanted to help. Have spent 40 plus years in the north myself, I commend his kindness and passion for others of the north. I trust as northern peoples, we will show support for whom we love.
Best regards,
Mom

When was that photo taken, Rendezvous or Halloween or is it ceremonial garb? The bible teaches acceptance for all of God's children
