A 36-year-old B.C. man was arrested early this morning in Whitehorse for possessing a "significant amount” of marijuana and hash oil, allegedly intended for distribution.
The man was arrested at 3:30 a.m. at the Whitehorse Greyhound depot, carrying eight pounds of marijuana and 29 vials of hash oil.
The suspect had arrived in Whitehorse by bus from Vancouver.
Whitehorse RCMP have not released the identity of the suspect, except to say he is a former resident of the territory with ties to Whitehorse, currently living in the Lower Mainland of B.C.
The large quantity of marijuana is thought to have been intended for trafficking purposes, Sgt. Don Rogers, a spokesperson for the Whitehorse RCMP, told the Star.
"The vials of hash oil could be used for individual sale or could be broken down for further distribution,” he said.
The RCMP haven't released a street value for the seized drugs.
Jaysen Urton was scheduled to appear in territorial court this afternoon on charges of possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
This morning's seizure is the second significant drug bust this week in Whitehorse.
On Monday, three men, aged 18, 42 and 59, were arrested for possession of $1,300 worth of crack, ecstasy and cocaine.
All three have since been released on bail.
