Two Whitehorse homes suffered break-ins during broad daylight Wednesday.

In one burglary on Salter Place in the Granger subdivision, a door was forced open between 8 a.m. and 12:21 p.m. A telescope tripod, an old Pentax camera and a bucket of change were stolen.

Over on Crestview's Bryde Place, another home was burgled, this one between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. On the missing list are a computer, DVDs, watches, a ring and three telephones.

A local businessman also reported his premises entered. Between 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday, his mobile engine repair business located on Copper Road was robbed.

Thieves forced open a back door and made off with a 5,000-watt Honda generator worth $2,700 when new.

Meanwhile, a pair of brothers will have some making up to do after a scrap on a downtown sidewalk early this morning.

Whitehorse RCMP officers out on patrol a half-hour after the bars closed at 2 a.m. stumbled upon the rowdy pair duking it out in front of the 202 Motor Inn on Jarvis Street.

Despite a pair of warnings from the Mounties to cease the fisticuffs, the men wouldn't stop, said RCMP spokesman Sgt. John Sutherland.

Eventually the younger brother, an Inuvik, N.W.T. man who turned 37 when the clock struck midnight only a couple hours previously, was arrested.

He was held in police cells until he sobered up, while his 38-year-old brother, a local man, was sent on his way.

No injuries resulted, and police don't expect to lay charges, Sutherland said.

Though alcohol was involved, it's unclear what started the brotherly dispute in the first place.
