Historical houses on Third Avenue were without electricity and phone service Friday afternoon after a delivery truck snagged wires as it was driving through an alley.

Emergency crews along with Yukon Electrical Co. Ltd. staff were called to the scene at around 2:40 p.m. Friday after the truck made contact with the lines.

Craig Steinbach, Yukon Electrical's operation and maintenance superintendent, said the driver is experienced and waited for crews to arrive to shut the power off before he got out of the truck.

Two historical houses lost power and phone service.

'The lines were live,' Whitehorse fire chief Clive Sparks said Friday afternoon.

As Yukon Electrical staffers shut the power off, firefighters blocked off access to the lane.

While the fire crew was back in service at 3:20 p.m., it was later in the evening before Yukon Electrical restored power to the houses, Steinbach said.
