The body of a Whitehorse man was found on the shore of Marsh Lake yesterday.
A search carried out Monday morning by Carcross Detachment RCMP, Carcross Search and Rescue and the Tagish and Marsh Lake Volunteer Fire Departments, recovered the body of Werner Manske at approximately 11 a.m.
When the body was found, it was partially in the water and partially on the shore.
A missing persons report for the 57-year-old was filed at around 8:40 Sunday night.
Manske was last seen Saturday afternoon in Tagish at the Southern Lakes Marina.
During the search, both his boat and his vehicle were found at the Marina, according to Carcross RCMP.
The boat was docked and the car was still in the parking lot.
The cause of death is still unknown.
An autopsy is currently underway at the Yukon Coroner's Office to determine how Manske died. Chief Coroner, Sharon Hanley, says she will likely have results by tomorrow morning.
Two searches were conducted before the body was recovered, Carcross RCMP Cpl. Eric Hendricks said in an interview his morning.
'We conducted a brief search Sunday night until we ran out of daylight, ' he said. This first search lasted about half and hour.
The second search, when the body was found, lasted approximately three hours Monday morning.
Three boats were involved in the search, one from each community in Carcross, Tagish and Marsh Lake.
No foul play is suspected in the death, according to police.
Help from Search and Rescue, and the fire departments was essential in carrying out the search so quickly, Hendricks says.
'If it wasn't for the assistance from them, we are unlikely to be where we are with the recovery,' he says.
Police want to remind the public to wear life jackets when they are on or around water.
Carcross RCMP is continuing to investigate the case.
