A boat with three passengers, all Whitehorse residents, was returning from a fishing trip on Marsh Lake when the vessel struck an object, then hit the McClintock River Bridge.
After the accident, the group proceeded by boat to their residence and immediately contacted the RCMP, just before midnight.
Emergency Medical Services personnel attended and transported the individuals to Whitehorse General Hospital.
Val Pike, the community hospital liaison nurse, said today a 28-year-old male passenger on the boat had suffered a head injury and was medevaced to Vancouver General Hospital for further treatment.
The driver, a 22-year-old male, had received a laceration on his forehead. He was treated and released early Saturday morning. The other passenger, a 36-year-old female, did not have any injuries.
A RCMP spokesperson said the incident is still under investigation. No names were released.
Police have issued a reminder to all recreational boaters to use extreme caution due to high water levels, and to also take all necessary precautions when planning trips.
Personal flotation devices and thermal protective gear should be worn at all times, and extra food, medical and camping supplies should also be packed in case of an emergency.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans imposed a speed restriction in the Southern Lakes region last week to limit boat wake, which could possibly accelerate erosion of unprotected banks and endanger the volunteer and work crews maintaining the barricades.
Boating safety notices have been posted in the affected areas stating the operation of vessels within 75 metres of the shore line must be restricted to 10-km/h or less.
