The Whitehorse Fire Department, along with fire departments for three communities, were called out Friday morning to fight a blaze in the MacPherson subdivision.

Whitehorse firefighters were called out to a house on Marion Crescent at around 11:30 a.m.

The garage on the property had caught fire and the flames were getting close to the house itself, Fire Chief Clive Sparks said today.

Water tankers were summoned from the Ibex Valley, Golden Horn and Hootalinqua volunteer fire departments to supplement the Whitehorse tanker already on the scene.

"We never ran out of water; I would rather have more than what we need,” Sparks said.

In the end, the fire did scorch the outside of the home but didn't do any damage to the contents inside, Sparks said.

The family was able to return home at around 2 p.m.

The garage was destroyed.

The fire chief estimates the blaze did between $45,000 and $50,000 worth of damage to the garage and the outside of the home.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated but does not appear to be suspicious, Sparks said.
