The Whitehorse Fire Department responded to a house fire at 405 Hanson St. near Fourth Avenue on Thursday evening.
Deputy Fire Chief Chris Green said today firefighters responded to the blaze at 9:40 p.m.
They remained on the scene until 12:37 a.m., when the fire was suppressed enough to secure the house.
Some personnel remained at the house all night and morning to make sure nothing further happened, Green told the Star.
The fire department has not been able to determine the cause of the fire at this time.
He said the situation is being investigated, and further details could be available as early as Monday morning.
Green did say the fire most likely started in the home’s patio area. He figures it crept through a nearby window.
Once in the home, firefighters had to look inside walls and the attic for fire.
It caused a lot of damage to the upstairs floor and the attic. The building’s basement suffered water damage.
The fire also damaged an adjacent building.
Although there were large flames, Green said, firefighters were able to knock them down.
“We were able to get it under control quickly,” he said.
Green confirmed that there were no occupants in the house at the time.
One of the occupants was at the scene speaking with firefighters.
There were no injuries reported.
“The call went pretty smooth,” Green said.
