Mayor Laura Cabott has declared Wednesday as Bell Let’s Talk Day.

Cabott made the declaration at city council’s meeting on Monday.

Bell Let’s Talk Day is a day of conversation, support and positive change for mental health, says the proclamation.

The city will raise a flag to celebrate the day.

As well, it encourages all citizens to join the conversation and help create positive change.

“Whitehorse city council recognizes that due to COVID-19, people are experiencing challenges that may affect their mental health, and now more than ever, there is a need for conversation, awareness and action around mental health issues,” says the declaration.

It says the City of Whitehorse supports positive mental health for all citizens and seeks to improve the lives of all persons who will experience a mental illness or mental health issue in their lifetime.

This is great but when are things going to be done with the housing crises in Whitehorse?

How naive of me, when I saw the headline, I thought Bell would drop charges for a call to a family member somewhere in Canada. Then I remembered why I changed carriers.

As someone who had a relative that suffered from the most severe of mental illnesses, these campaigns actually anger me. While I can appreciate the sentiment that there is more conversation/less stigma around mental illness, the stark reality is that these campaigns and ‘conversations’ pay little else other than lip service for those impacted by mental health challenges. Spending one day donating pennies to a cause does not provide supports to those living with mental illness change, nor does it change outcomes for them. Pat yourselves on the back all you want folks, but until employers, families, governments, and the medical community change their cultures to actually support folks beyond bandaids, these interventions are disingenuous and meaningless.

Terrible faux-pas by mayor Cabott. How can she give a company free publicity. Don’t support external companies in their feel-good scam. Support your Whitehorse residents with real action and care. Bad move Laura, really bad.

Has the government responded to the Saturday protests at Shipyard Park? Have they responded to the lone man protesting in front of the legislation building? Didn't think so. They have their program and nobody is going to stop that. So they close their eyes to the public complainers and try to convince themselves they don't exist. Next thing coming up, is them telling the police to order them out under threat of arrest.

Here's a thought, tell the Liberal tyrant dictators in Ottawa and Yukon to back off from their unjust mandates and let us get on with our lives. Those marxists don't seem to respond to anything the public tells them. After all, they don't want the citizens interfering with their global "Great Reset" program. Justin Trudeau has his orders from his UN bosses.

This is such a scam for a company that could really care less about you and just needs a tax write off.

All we need now is a Pfizer Let's Medicate Day.

Sure let's talk! But you won't want to, so many people can't actually have a conversation cause they can't fathom that they could be wrong... the blind sheep (86% of you) leading themselves to slaughter proves that. Trusting big pharma.. LOL

For a company that laid thousands of people off during a "pandemic" it's rich them promoting mental health. What an asinine move. Horrible track record so far.
