The avalanche forecasting season in the Yukon is underway.

To help support informed decision-making in the backcountry, the Yukon Avalanche Association and Avalanche Canada have once again teamed up to provide local users with a complete avalanche forecasting program in the White Pass and Wheaton Valley for the coming winter season.

Avalanche forecasts will be issued four times a week on www.avalanche.ca and will continue through April, 2021.

“We are very happy to once again provide the essential safety service of a regular forecast to backcountry users in Yukon,” James Floyer, Avalanche Canada’s warning service program supervisor, said last month.

“With the 2020 season being cut short due to COVID-19, we’ve adapted and are looking forward to a safe and successful season ahead.”

The Yukon forecast is produced using data collected by Avalanche Canada’s Yukon field team as well as observations submitted by members of the public to the Mountain Information Network (MIN).

For the past several years. Yukon backcountry users have helped strengthen the forecast by routinely submitting strong field data to the MIN.
