An Atlin, B.C. man has been killed after a single-vehicle rollover on the Alaska Highway in the Yukon.

Last Friday evening, Jeffrey Dion Williams, 33, was located deceased near a BMW that had rolled over at kilometre 1386, approximately 5 km south of the Lewes Bridge.

The RCMP released the news Monday afternoon.

They said Williams, who was driving the vehicle, had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

One woman and two men, who were also in the BMW, were transported to Whitehorse General Hospital by EMS. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Their names were not released.

The initial investigation has revealed that the vehicle was travelling south when it left the highway. It collided with the southbound shoulder and flipped, eventually coming to a rest in the northbound lane.

The cause of the fatal collision remains under investigation.

The Alaska Highway was closed while emergency responders worked at the scene of the crash.

Traffic was affected in both directions for several hours as vehicles were let through intermittently while scene analysis was conducted by Yukon RCMP Traffic Services.

The Golden Horn and Mt. Lorne Volunteer Fire Departments, the Yukon Fire Marshal’s Office and Yukon Emergency Medical Services also responded to the incident.

The RCMP and Yukon Coroner’s Service continue to collaborate on the investigation.
