The Yukon Food for Learning Association has gained $11,904 thanks to ATCO Electric Yukon and its employees.
The EPIC (Employees Participating in Communities) program is a charity program directed and co-ordinated by employees while being supported by ATCO Electric Yukon.
Employees take time out of their work day to fundraise, volunteer and generate awareness for a charity of choice.
ATCO Electric then matches the money raised by its employees dollar-for-dollar.
Each year, the employees choose a local charity, and the Yukon Food for Learning Association was their “charity of choice” for 2018.
During 2018, they raised $5,952. That amount was matched by ATCO Electric, resulting in a cheque for $11,904 being presented to the association on May 30.
“We are thrilled to receive this level of support from Yukoners,” said Pat Living, the association’s vice-chair.
“We know from experience how much the students and teachers appreciate the school food programs.
“We know that children learn better when they are well-nourished, and this donation from ATCO Electric Yukon and its employees will help us make sure that all Yukon students have access to food at school when they need it.”
The association is a charitable organization that raises funds to distribute to Yukon schools to operate their school food programs.
During the 2017-18 academic year, 29 schools in the Yukon served 222,283 breakfasts, lunches and snacks to approximately 5,434 students.
