The family and friends of a Haines Junction man who went missing last month remain hopeful despite a lack of new information on his whereabouts.
Paul Boyle has continued to try to find his older brother David, 53, who was last seen in Whitehorse on Aug. 30.
"I have no choice. As far as I'm concerned, we will find him,” Paul told the Star this week. "That's all I want.
"He's got be around Whitehorse somewhere.”
Paul searched with family members via helicopter – offered voluntarily by the Trans North and Horizon tour companies – for three days earlier this month, scouring the greater Whitehorse area from the air.
The RCMP sent out search planes to trace the Alaska Highway as far as Haines Junction and Watson Lake, and notified the Canada Border Services Agency along with surrounding RCMP detachments.
"As far as leads and tips, we have followed up on all of them, and unfortunately, none have come to fruition,” said Whitehorse RCMP lead investigator Cpl. Jason Walder.
"We're in touch with the family daily. And if people can call us with something, we're looking for anything and everything.”
There has been no notable activity on David's bank accounts, Walder added.
The last confirmed sighting of David was at The Ridge Pub & Grill in Copper Ridge at around 7 p.m. on Aug. 30.
He likely drove there from Skookum Asphalt, a road paving company where he worked, in a white pickup with Skookum markings on the side of the truck.
Skookum had been planning to give him an award for the most days served without missing work.
"He was a good guy, a very hard worker,” Paul said. "Of course, he had his problems, like all of us.”
David and his ex-wife, who have two grown children living in Ontario, separated in December 2012. He rented a room in the house of his friend and former employer, Carol Church.
"We've gone down cliffs and up valleys and over hills and through trees and bushes looking for him,” Church said in an interview this week.
"But we've run out of places to look.”
Church, who has known the missing man for nearly 15 years and whose husband died in 2012, said David's presence had been a big comfort.
"Come home, Dave,” she said, her voice choking.
Paul said he is very grateful to the people who helped search for his brother and continue to keep an eye out.
"But it's getting to the point where our supposed sightings are old and our leads are getting fewer and fewer. We've searched every single road in the Whitehorse area and we've got nothing – at all.”
He plans to take up local radio stations on their offers to put out a request to hunters and hikers to stay on the lookout for David and the missing pickup truck.
"I really wouldn't even wish this on my worst enemy,” Paul said.
An RCMP bulletin describes David as weighing roughly 150 pounds with grey hair and blue eyes.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red mackinaw-style jacket.
