Northwestel Inc.’s directory cover art contest has returned.

The company is accepting submissions until Oct. 12 for the following telephone directory covers: Yukon/Northern B.C., Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

Entrants have the chance to win $5,000 and a spot on the cover of the directory in one of the areas.

They must be current residents of Northwestel’s operating area (Nunavut, the N.W.T., northern B.C. and Yukon).

Artists whose work has appeared on a Northwestel directory cover in the last four years are not eligible to enter.

Works to be considered must be two-dimensional original, hand-rendered artwork (such as acrylic, oil, watercolour, silkscreen, etc.), digital visual art works (such as digital painting, drawing or computer-generated still imagery) or three-dimensional works (such as sculptures and carvings).

“Although photography is considered an art form, we are not seeking this type of artwork at this time for the directory covers,” Northwestel said

“The artwork cannot already have been previously published, reproduced in any format or exhibited.

“The artist should not have future plans to sell, publish, reproduce or exhibit the artwork.”

A maximum of two pieces may be submitted by each artist.

Late entries cannot be considered due to the production schedule of the telephone directories. Winners in each territory will be notified by Nov. 10.

Entrants who were not selected as prize winners will not be contacted.

The winning directory cover art will be officially revealed in the spring 2023.

Entries must be accompanied by an official entry form containing the following information:

• the artist’s name, address, telephone number and e-mail address (if available);

• a short artist’s biography;

• a description of the artwork, including dimensions, medium and title; and

• acknowledgment of the competition rules and regulations.
