Former Yukon MLA Haakon Arntzen will stand trial in Northwest Territories Supreme Court on a charge of indecent assault dating back to 1973 in Fort Smith.
The clerk's office for the Northwest Territories court confirmed this morning that at Arntzen's court appearance Monday in Hay River, N.W.T., he waived his right to a preliminary hearing that would determine whether there's enough evidence to take the case to trial.
The N.W.T. Supreme Court sets its own agenda for trial and no date has been set as of yet. Documents from Monday's court appearance have yet to be sent to the Supreme Court.
Arntzen has also chosen a trial by jury.
Earlier this year, Arntzen won his appeal against his 2005 convictions of three counts of indecent assault in the Yukon dating back to the 1970s.
Arntzen resigned as the independent MLA for Copperbelt after he was initially sentenced to a 15-month conditional term in 2005.
Liberal Leader Arthur Mitchell won the seat in last November's byelection.
Arntzen was elected as a Yukon Party MLA in the 2002 election, but left the caucus after he was charged in the spring of 2004.
