Premier Ranj Pillai met Wednesday with Akylbek Kamaldinov, the “extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Canada,” in Whitehorse.

“Today, I was pleased to meet with Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Canada Mr. Akylbak Kamaldinov,” Pillai said later in the day.

This was the Ambassador’s first visit to the Yukon.

“Our discussions focused on our economies as well as opportunities for co-operation,” the premier said.

“Kazakhstan is particularly interested in learning more about the Yukon’s mining industry and environmental remediation expertise. We also discussed parks management and tourism.”

Canada celebrated the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations with Kazakhstan on April 10, 2022.

“I look forward to the continued strength of Yukon-Kazakh relations,” Pillai said.
