CLASSES STILL IN SESSION – École Whitehorse Elementary School remains open despite the ‘urgent notice’ sent to parents.

Almost 70 COVID cases reported over five days

Dr. Catherine Elliott, the territory’s acting chief medical officer of health, has reported 44 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from noon last Wednesday through noon Friday.

By Whitehorse Star on November 8, 2021

Dr. Catherine Elliott, the territory’s acting chief medical officer of health, has reported 44 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from noon last Wednesday through noon Friday.

Thirty-four are residents of Whitehorse. Five are residents of Carmacks, while five live in Watson Lake.

Added to the 23 reported from last Monday to Wednesday, the total is 67 new cases in five days.

Case data from the weekend were unavailable from the Yukon government before press time this afternoon.

The number of active cases as of Friday afternoon was 102.

With the rising numbers of infected people, many of whom have no known connection to other known cases or exposures sites, Elliott has confirmed there is now widespread community transmission of COVID-19 in Whitehorse.

The total number of confirmed cases in Yukon residents since March 2020 is 1,017.

Since March 2020, 907 people have recovered, while 10 people have died.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education has sent an “urgent notice” to parents of students attending École Whitehorse Elementary School.

It informs them that Yukon Communicable Disease Control (YCDC) has confirmed positive COVID-19 cases affecting multiple classes:

• Grades 3/4 split (updated);

• Grades 4/5 split (updated);

• Grade 7b (new);

• Bus #29 (new).

Parents have been advised of specific clinical direction for students and staff regarding who needs to self-isolate, who needs to be tested for COVID-19, and who needs to self-monitor for symptoms.

École Whitehorse Elementary School remains open and is following its Operational Plan for Communicable Disease.

Department officials continue to work closely with Elliott and YCDC to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.

Parental notifications of COVID exposure alerts have gone out in recent days involving several Yukon schools.

Elliott has also issued an exposure notice regarding a Halloween concert held at The Local Bar, 206 Jarvis St., Whitehorse. The event took place from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

Employees of the Yukon Housing Corp. in Whitehorse were notified via their work email addresses Friday evening of a potential exposure alert for their Jarvis Street building.

This morning, the corporation was unable to provide the Star with such details as the number of employees involved, the ramifications for their work plans this week, or whether they were alerted at their homes over the weekend so they could take precautions as soon as possibe.

“With widespread community transmission of COVID-19 in Whitehorse, I am urging all Yukoners to wear a mask indoors and those who are not vaccinated to stick to six for their gatherings,” Elliott said.

“This is the time to use the protections we know well, and it has never been a better time to get vaccinated.”

People from out of the territory who are diagnosed in the Yukon are counted in the territory’s active case count but not in the Yukon’s total case count as they are counted in their home jurisdiction.

Elliott strongly encourages Yukoners to follow public health recommendations:

A rapid testing team was in Carmacks over the weekend, and clinics continue there until 6 p.m. today.

Anyone experiencing symptoms in Whitehorse should call the COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre at 867-393-3083 or book online to arrange for testing.

People in communities should contact their rural community health centre.

COVID-19 and its variants spread easily, Elliott is reminding the public.

People can pass infection on even if they do not have any symptoms.

Everyone aged 12 and older can get vaccinated in the Yukon.

@matthew

It’s kinda weird, someone else mentioned it but you have a rather bizarre obsession for both the vaccine and the virus both of which you think are fake.
If it’s not real, why are you allowing it to consume every waking moment of your lonely existence?

Take a deep breathe and go for a walk.

@YukonJennifer if you drink, smoke, eat GMO, do drugs, you can not participate in this conversation with your logic. ALL of these cause way more damage than covid ever will! Also, most people actually do get better at home. Better not go see a doctor as they kill up to 24,000/yr with their misdiagnosis..

Quoted in former Premier Brian Peckford's blog (Peckford 42), Prof. Dr. Günter Kampf Consultant hospital epidemiologist and Associate Professor for hygiene and environmental medicine at the University Medicine Greifswald, Institute for Hygiene and Environmental Medicine, Germany, states in a essay for the Brownstone Institute on the myth of the unvaccinated : ‘"In Israel a hospital-acquired outbreak of Covid-19 was reported involving 16 healthcare workers, 23 exposed patients and two family members. The source was a fully vaccinated patient who was diagnosed to have Covid-19. Under all exposed individuals (151 healthcare workers and 97 patients) the vaccination rate was 96.2%. Fourteen fully vaccinated patients became severely ill or died, the two unvaccinated patients developed mild disease." Some researchers/physicians believe the injections reduce the effectiveness of the immune system such that the vaccinated carry the same viral load as the unvaccinated and are more dangerous in terms of infection than the unvaccinated since they the carry the virus longer with no apparent symptoms. Safe and effective? Time for a rethink!

To Juniper;
I guess that depends on if the teenage drunk driver takes out a family or other kids in the accident. Then she becomes a murderer. Do I have pity for people who think only of themselves at the expense of those who can’t get vaccinated? People who are too young, immunocompromised, allergic to vaccines, etc. deserve to have the rest of us care about them and the greater good. Like Spock says, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one or the few. Let’s get vaccinated for all of us.

@YukonJennifer, you should change your handle to YukonKaren. Good lord lighten up, assume you are double vaccinated what are you worried about? Should we just line up the rest and shoot them? Are you a brown shirt, should I be issued a yellow star? Give your head a shake, if it rattles have a seat.

YukonJennifer: Jeez.. that's a hard view. Say, a kid is in an accident.. 16, bleeding out in the back seat, does Yukonjennifer say, hey..it was her decision to drink..let her die? Last time I looked that's not representative of Canadian's.. that is NOT who we are. Is that really who you are?

It's been demonstrated that these covid vax don't stop transmission. Once again, the chief medical officer isn't saying the most relevant info: these 'cases' only have mild symptoms, and most of them are probably vaccinated.

Fact known by researches:
Unvaccinated gets no protection with severe symptoms in case of being positive and possible to pass out virus to others.
Double vaccinated are protected with milder or no symptoms, but still possible to pass out to others in case of being positive.

YCDC recommendations are:
Unvaccinated should self-isolate = Make sense
Double vaccined should self-monitor until symptoms appear = Doesn't make sense. Why are they allowed to walk around? They may spread virus if they're positive without symptoms. Am I stupid?

So here’s what happens anti vaxxers! As a remote northern community we do not have the resources for a full on outbreak. Feel free to not get the vaccine but do not expect to have access to public services like schools and hospitals!
Don’t get vaccinated but when you do get sick, tough it out at home!! See how long you can last!

We live in dangerous times and our Federal Government along with other governments are really trying to stop this type of behavior from taking place again!!!

Lot of people out there that are emotionally invested in vaccines. As the narrative disintegrates, their anger will grow. Whether they realize that it is the government that has subjected them to this or not, determines our future.

It’s really way over blown.
In the very near future I won’t be reading any of the news agencies. This has got to go to the back burner.

@North_of_60 Using the Global Research site as a reference is totally wrong. Media Bias/Fact Check puts them in the tin foil category for claims about anti-vaccination propaganda, 9-11 as a false flag operation, GMOs are harmful, and Chemtrails. They rated the site "Overall, we rate GlobalResearch a Tin Foil Hat Conspiracy and Strong Pseudoscience website". I'll give you credit at least you listed a reference site which many people don't - telling people to do their own research! https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/global-research/

So the vax is doing exactly what the manufacturers said it would do, "mild reduction of symptoms". There is also a massive list of "rare" side effects that they also said it does. Do the risks outweigh the benefits? Well that's a personal choice for everyone to make, especially since if you get injured you are on your own.

I am just glad we live in a country were people are not coerced into taking something experimental, for a disease they have little risk from, that is manufactured by a company with a horrendous track record. Denmark! Oh wait I don't live there, and can't go there. My government won't allow me to leave the country unless I learn to sail.

Why aren't boosters being given yet? I heard somewhere it was the best protection.

What is the point to keep counting active cases?
My kid's class got multiple exposure notices but nobody ended up seriously. It's like cold.
Why do kids without vaccine have to be prohibited to attend after school programs?

Most of the "cases" are people who are already "vaccinated", but that fact is conveniently omitted from the public announcement. We can be sure if most of the "cases" were "unvaccinated" that they would be repeating that numerous times in the story. The "vaccinated" can and DO catch and transmit C0vid. That's another fact the current medical bureaucrat spokesperson conveniently fails to mention.

The WHO Confirms that the Covid-19 PCR Test is Flawed: Estimates of “Positive Cases” are Meaningless. The Lockdown Has No Scientific Basis.

These invalid Covid-19 “estimates” have been used to justify confinement, social distancing, the face mask, the prohibition of social gatherings, cultural and sports events, the closure of economic activity, as well as the mRNA “vaccine” launched in November 2020.

How's that vaccine working out for you. Oh and the possibilities of two major heart issues that go with it. Notice the unvaccinated have stopped being blamed but still no figures for how many were vaccinated and the reason for that is the vaccine does nothing in my opinion.

Skeptical on Nov 8, 2021 at 2:46 pm

So many questions for public health officials. How many people are in hospital? How many in ICU? Are they vaccinated or unvaccinated? What is the vaccine status of the people testing positive? I have seen these stats from other jurisdictions and they seem like the best argument for getting the shot (ex. Ontario's ICU #s are 54 unvaccinated, 18 vaccinated (in whole or part).

Why aren't we using rapid testing in schools? Why aren't you putting HEPA filters in classrooms? Are we seeing spread in school? Why are we waiting until November 30 to implement the vaccine mandate for non-essential services?

Up 59 Down 77

Just curious on Nov 8, 2021 at 2:43 pm

Every Yukoner is aware that vaccine protection wears off to below 35% six months after the shot, right?
Everyone should be getting their booster immediately to stop the spread! Unless of course you want to use the best method which is your immune system.
