Yukoners can expect an emergency alert test on their cellphones, TVs and radios at approximately 1:55 p.m. Wednesday.

The Yukon government plans to issue an AlertReady emergency alerting system test via radio, television and compatible wireless devices.

“These types of alerts are designed to deliver critical and potentially life-saving information, including but not limited to flooding, wildfires and amber alerts,” the government said today.

The test is being administered in every province and territory.

“Testing of the emergency alert system across the country is an important and necessary part of ensuring the system works when we need it to, and it provides an opportunity to improve the performance and reliability of the system,” the government said.

Yukoners can find out if their wireless device is compatible and obtain more information by visiting https://alertready.ca.

@ Groucho, like yours, my smart phone isn't smart enough.
Just another way for Ma Bell to want us to give up on a still useful gadget & upgrade to their latest. They are really up on the concept of not buying new when the old still fits the purpose we bought it for.

The test doesn't hurt anything..but, I do not have a cell phone. I rarely listen to the radio as I am deaf as a post. No. I can't afford hearing aids. So, if there were an emergency before it could be posted in the virtual paper, if the internet was ever up, I wouldn't know about it. How many people living off grid would know about it? General advice.. all the governments have been telling us for years, keep 3 months of food on hand. Couple weeks of chronic meds. I ate most of my stored stuff, not that much, during the first lock down. I've been slowly replacing it. But lots of things I was going to get are not available..so many empty shelves in all the stores. I think the Emergency Measures act is a disaster in itself.

JC...simply put, fear is fear announced or not.
Think what ya will, as I know ya will...but.
So much has gone on in the last say...20 months to absolutely suggest we are experiencing a pys op.

Take the boy who cried wolf, bleating baseless wails of danger so when danger was there...no one cared.
There were also German citizens and authorities that warned of this crazy Austrian trying to infiltrate their political system...bleated loud. Too late crowd was in a lust trance.

Sigh...Russians tried to tell us about the death camps, nah...could not believe that or them...too outrageous eh?
Point...many folks are ignorant of history, so when a trend returns...they know nothing of it or pretend not to.

JC carry on, I know I never will convince you.
...something wicked this way comes.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory!
it's a test you monkeys. Relax. They are just trying to improve the system.

My smart phone does not have this alert feature. I just have to watch all the other people equipped with it go into panic mode.

It's a test of an emergency system. Only a brain rotted away by the worms could look at this as sinister.
I mean, they're literally giving everyone warning about the test. If they were trying to stoke fear, what purpose does advance warning serve?

During the incident in Faro a few weeks ago the alert did not go out until 2 hours after the first 911 call and the shooter was in custody. An hour after the first shooting a second person was murdered. His life would have been saved if the alert system had worked. I would agree some adjustments need to be made.

ALERT!! More and more shelves are empty at SaveOn, Superstore, Walmart and Independent. A toothbrush was $8 for a Colgate Firm. Only 2 left. If anyone thinks Canada is not in trouble, please mention why.

Guess the Ministry of Double Speak has concerns our fear levels are dropping.
Gotta keep y’all nice and on edge, for your safety of course.
