Whitehorse RCMP are asking for the public's help as they continue to investigate a reported Sunday evening assault.

Police were called after a driver came across a 29-year-old Alberta man who appeared to be injured walking along the Alaska Highway north of Crestview.

Const. Dean Hoogland said this morning the man had waved down the oncoming vehicle for assistance.

A second motorist also stopped and took him to Whitehorse General Hospital, contacting the RCMP to report his passenger had stated he had been assaulted.

He was treated for his injuries at the hospital and released.

A hospital spokesperson could not be reached this morning to discuss the injuries.

"The man has been interviewed by police, who are now investigating the alleged assault,” the RCMP said.

"At this time, the nature and origin of the injuries is not determined; however, it does not appear that the incident was random and there is no indication that there is a general risk to the public.”

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact police at 667-5551.
