Air North, Yukon's Airline, announced today it's rebranding, and will operate as Epic Airlines.

The change is effective immediately.

The airline has long been known for its authentic Yukon hospitality, the airline said in a statement, but the incredible spirit of innovative customer service demonstrated by its staff needed to be underscored by the carrier's name.

"‘Air North' didn't capture our complete essence of awesome,” said Epic Airlines' president, Joe Sparling.

"The company was fantastic when it was founded 37 years ago. But now, it's something else entirely – and it's time for people to know just how epic we truly are.”

Alongside the rebranding, the airline is introducing Super Northern Achievement Points (SNAP).

"Passengers will earn points for tasks such as successfully buckling and unbuckling their seat belts, raising their tray tables and seat-backs prior to landing, and waving at other airlines as we pass by,” the airline said.

SNAP will be used to unlock special bonuses, such as complimentary aviator sunglasses at time of check-in. One billion SNAP will earn the passenger a piggyback ride from Sparling, from check-in to the aircraft.

"I can't wait for our passengers to see what we have in store for them,” Sparling said. "The time for Epic is now.”

Epic Airlines has unveiled a sneak-peak at what passengers may expect from the carrier. It can be viewed online at www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbqnWoMWMrI&feature=youtu.be

Readers are reminded of today's date.

A good joke which almost had me fooled.... I'd send the video on to my southern friends but they likely would not see the point of the joke.

It might be an April fools day joke, but it would be a sound business move to expand southern sales and bolster charter services and services to and between southern destinations. I wonder how many people get leary of what the maintenance record of these planes are when it is called "Air North".

You got me big time. ha ha ha

I was seriously thinking this was the beginning of the end and I should use up my share certificates.

Good one! I was scared there for a minute though. Even googled your marketing agency to see who the moron was.

I read the story to my wife Lana. She almost cried. Then I told her to remember the date and she laughed and said, "Just wait until I see Joe Sparling next time he is going to get an ear full from me for almost breaking my heart."

Good one Air North, the greatest airline...anywhere.

I can't wait for this! It's about time that Air North changed it's name to show how epic it is! If everyone waves and is more friendly the flying experience will be that much more fun! Thank you Air North. You have my business from now on!
