Though a half-dozen tips have made their way to the RCMP after a 10-year-old boy reported an abduction attempt Tuesday afternoon, police are no closer to finding a suspect.
None of those tips has born fruit yet, Staff Sgt. Ray Fast told reporters this morning, though officers are still following down some of the information.
The Grade 5 student was standing outside Holy Family School shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, waiting for his dad to pick him up for a dentist appointment, when a red van pulled up, police said Wednesday.
When the male driver told the boy to get in the van, the youngster ran from the stranger back inside the school to notify authorities.
Despite scouring the area, police didn't find the red van, which had cardboard or plywood covering the back windows.
Anyone who has information about the driver or dark red van is asked to call Whitehorse RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in Riverdale after a driver reported seeing what appeared to be a gun and heard a shot fired late Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., two people were headed down Lewes Boulevard behind a pickup truck. Both the following vehicle and the pickup turned into the parking lot at 93 Lewes, though the pickup stopped when met by a grey or silver SUV.
An occupant of the SUV was seen leaning out the window with what appeared to be the barrel of a gun visible as well.
The witnesses reported hearing a bang similar to a gun shot, Fast said.
The pickup and SUV then drove away.
After the two witnesses reported the incident to the RCMP at 6 p.m., officers were able to locate the pickup truck, but its occupants are not cooperating with police, said Fast.
There's no evidence of a shot hitting anything and it's not known if the pickup and SUV occupants knew each other.
Investigators are also looking into the theft of a cash box at Canyon Mountain Medical Centre on Third Avenue last night.
Reported at 7:20 a.m. today, the break-in resulted in some damage to the point of entry. Further details were not available.
