JUNEAU – When Juneau Jazz & Classics kicks off its 28th season this Labour Day weekend, cellist Zuill Bailey will take the audience on a uniquely American musical journey.

One of the world's premier cellists, Bailey will perform with pianist Lara Downes in an All-American program featuring works by Lukas Foss, Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein and Dave Brubeck. This one-night-only performance of ‘Made in America' will benefit for the 2014 Juneau Jazz & Classics Festival, and serve as a special Juneau preview of his soon-to-be-released CD.

Bailey's celebrated artistry, technical wizardry and engaging personality have made him one of the most sought-after cellists today. He has served as the artistic director of the Sitka Summer Music Festival since 2011, and has earned a tremendous following in Juneau, Southeast, and throughout Alaska.

Critically acclaimed American pianist Lara Downes is one of the most exciting and communicative classical artists of her generation. Called "a delightful artist with a unique blend of musicianship and showmanship” by NPR, Downes presents the piano repertoire in ways that bridge musical tastes, genres and audiences.

Bailey will perform ‘Made in America' with Lara Downes on Sunday evening, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. Tickets are $50 general, $25 students, and are available at www.jazzandclassics.org, or at the JACC, Hearthside Books and at the door. There will be a no-host bar and light hors d'oeuvres.

Juneau Jazz & Classics presents world-class live jazz, blues, and classical music in Alaska's capital city. The 28th Annual Festival, May 2-17, 2014, will include more than 50 events in 16 days: concerts, workshops, cruises, free events, and more.
