No open-heart surgery, no hospital cardiac care units, and no real understanding of the heart and stroke hazards of smoking, physical inactivity and poor diet it was 1955. A group of doctors formed the B.C. Heart Foundation, today called the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon.
