  • City: vapourize this issue Ed. note: this is a letter to Mayor Ernie Bourassa and city council. I am reading with astonishment the call for a proposal for an 'idling bylaw'.

  • Martin is only doing his job Re: Paul Martin's senior cabinet ministers' pay hike. Our prime minister is only exercising the duties he is allowed to perform when he gave his senior cabinet members a raise of $35,000.

  • Help the children! One of the more disturbing consequences of the AIDS pandemic, as highlighted in World AIDS Day reports last month, is the orphaning of children, 11 million of them in Africa alone.
  • Comments on second-hand smoke absurd' One of your readers recently quoted a study in the May 2003 issue of the British Medical Journal as proof that second-hand smoke does not cause any negative health effects ('Second-hand smoke: report both sides', Star letters, Jan. 5 ).
  • He went out of his way twice It's nice to see a youth go the extra mile. Last Saturday afternoon at around 5 p.m., I stopped to get air in the tire of my car.
  • Excessive idling damages your engine I would like to respond to comments made by Curtis White, a partsman at the Performance Centre, to your reporter, Stephanie Waddell, in the article 'City needs idling bylaw, resident says', (Star, Jan. 6).
  • Let us not repeat history The summit in Mexico could be the beginning of cozy relations with the Americans, reminiscent of the Mulroney era.
