  • Without our kids, there's no school Today is Aug. 9, 2005, and as I sit here writing this letter, there is a walk-around for the prospective bidders on the property where the school will be built in Carmacks.
  • Artists are important Hi there.... I just wanted to let the Star know that although I'm enjoying the articles and updates about our athletes at the Canada Summer Games, I'd love to hear about our artists at the Games as well.
  • Nature has a plan Of all the beautiful sights up here, nothing is more beautiful than the people who live here.
  • Volunteers sure did their part This is a photo of the Monday night bingo crew that worked the final bingo at the Mt. McIntyre Recreation Centre before the association was dissolved and the building turned back over to the City of Whitehorse.
  • Neighbour to a nuclear plant Toshiba Corp. of Japan has started the regulatory process of building a nuclear power plant for Galena, Alaska.
  • Common sense has gone down the pipe Any kingdom, state or country with hair on its chest must be observing the antics of Kanuckistan with a yawn and a wry smile.
  • Are they not mentioning something about shootings? Subject: Toronto shootings. Re. the spate of shootings in Toronto, that has garnered a lot of ress and hand-wringing!
  • Good ol' days were far better While the downward trend in the crime rate over the past 10 years is heartening, all is not rosey.

  • Mother warns of campground thievery As the mother of a young American man who is bicycling through the Yukon this week, it is important that the local community be made aware of a number of thefts that are occurring at your local campsites.
  • Smoky Smith's dedication and committment is remembered Canadians lost a war hero with the passing of Ernest 'Smoky' Smith this week. Smoky received the Victoria Cross medal for his actions in Italy in the Second World War.

  • There's no soul in sole-sourcing It's a joke to think any one party is less responsible than another when pointing fingers; however, that is exactly what I've been hearing and reading.

  • Your presence made a big difference The board of the Downtown Residents Association would like to thank all those who joined us at the courthouse on Tuesday, July 26 to show the judiciary that this community will no longer tolerate drug-trafficking (Star, July 27).
